Louis Octave Mattei

Another day another work of art in miniature. A search of the internet show some very fine medal by this engraver. Many beautifully engraved awards and patriotic themes that look very fine under a glass.

Louis Octave Mattei was French sculptor and engraver of medals. He is known to have been born c1880 and to have studied under the master Tonnelier and to have exhibited the
Salon des Artistes Français.

He also travelled to
in Algeria which led to a series of African subjects. He also designed an unofficial versions of the WW1 French Inter-Allied Victory medal.

Some of the subjects seem to be used again and again. Some as plain medals others as hanging or as a cartouche within a larger design.
