Elizabeth Field - Painter Printmaker

Here is my latest purchase and new artist to me. It appears to be a 4 colour (probably) linocut and from the style I would date it to the 1930's Although untitled it is clearly signed Elizabeth Field and numbered 11/50. A good composition with not too many empty spaces and it looks as if some of the blocks were reworked, so created by someone technically competent.  The usual question must be asked - who was Elizabeth Field.

This was bought in it's original frame that was worn and not to modern tastes so had to be opened. I find that opening pictures can be surprising or scary. I once opened a picture to find 2 others used as packing both better than the on view and equally on more than one occasion I have opened up that rare print to find it was a calender page !!

This one ?? good news, yes a real original print and some clues. The mount was it's original presentation folder with an illegible embossed stamp and on the back was the artists address. Which reads Miss Elizabeth Field, The Loft Studio, Courtlands, Westbourne Rd, Edgbaston, Birmingham. This address is a bit of a google buster and nothing shows up.

I can add some facts about this artist as she has an entry in the Encyclopaedia of British Artist 1880-1940. She is listed as a watercolour artist and wood engraver who had studied at the Birmingham Central School of Arts and Crafts and then on to the Slade. Recorded addresses as Wolverhampton c1925 and then Edgbaston by 1928. Some exhibition record with 16 works shown at the Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham and 2 works at the New England Art Club. Usefully her date of birth is given as 1902 and that she was also a Mrs W A Eden.

On with the trail - Elizabeth Eden born 1902 artist ?? Yes recorded on Artfact but no listed works ? and so the trail ends . Any comments, any more info, has anyone seen other prints by this artist ??

I have recently been contacted by a collector who owns the following woodcut of a woodland view signed Elizabeth Eden. The signature matches that of E Field which confirms that they are the same artist. More information please to complete the story.
