Helen Paxton Brown

As a follow on from the earlier posting - Yes, there really was an artist called Helen Paxton Brown and she was a Scottish Lady painter, who was living in Glasgow c1901 and in Kirkcudbright in 1929. She exhibited between 1901 and 1940 including at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Art 34 works, Walker Art Gallery 12, Royal Scottish Academy 18 and Royal Society of Women Artists 1.

Helen was a student at the Glasgow School of Art and a life long friend of the Glasgow Girl, Jessie Marion King. Their are works by her in the National Galleries of Scotland collection.

There a multitude of  references to her decorating pottery, but as I have suggested the wares traditionally attributed to her, were not by her. Whether she did paint pottery is unclear.
