K is for Knight

K is for Dame Laura Knight (1877-1970)

She is not a name immediately associated with art pottery, however, she did provide designs for the Art and Industry exhibitions in 1934 with ceramics made by E Brain (Foley), AJ Wilkinson (Clarice Cliff) and she also designed the 1936 Coronation mug.

She was a painter and designer specialising in circus, fairground and theatre subject. She was born in Derbyshire and trained at the Nottingham School of Art. She exhibited extensively including at the Royal Academy.
