Louis Dupont (1896-1967) - Medals

Louis Dupont (1896-1967) was a Belgium sculptor born in Waremme and who died in Liege. He specialised in small figural sculptures in bronze and the creation of medals. Many of his medals are portrait studies of politicians and person of significance from his period.

However, who was he and where did he study ?? any information.

Commemorative medal issued to honour gun manufacturer John Moses Browning (1855-1926).
Designed by Dupont and minted in Fisch, Belgium, 1926

His designs have a clean and simply look, not too much unnecessary detail, typical of the "art deco". From the dates on these medal I would suggest an active creative period from c1925 until the mid 1960's.

The medal was awarded following the liberation of Liege on 8 September 1944

I have not been able to trace any biographical detail - no details on schooling, study, exhibitions or awards. Perhaps all this information is trapped in French, German or Walloon language publications or web-reference and not available to us English only Anglos.

Any help ?? Please leave as comment.
